Are your employee benefits heading in the right direction?

August 5, 2011 By Kuljit Kaur Leave a Comment

The climate is prime for employers to offer employee benefit programmes to staff. Low cost high perceived value offers!
But the big issue for me is take up – why is this?
- Do the benefits selected offer enough choice?
- Are the benefits offered easy to take up?
- Is the communication of the programme far and wide reaching?
- Does it actually reach the audience? Offering an all singing all dancing web platform doesn’t actually mean employees will participate
- Is the scheme communicated regularly enough or simply at launch then left to gather dust?

I think all too often Employee Benefit schemes are seen as a tick box exercise – as long at the organisation are offering it then that’s job done.
Yet do they realise that if they can satisfy the needs of employees even in the smallest way through one benefit or another, that individuals motivation will improve and that individual will be more inclined to see that employer as an employer of choice. In the long run this will help to reduce absenteeism and staff turnover.

In my opinion, HR departments or those responsible for introducing Employee Benefit programmes should be targeted for uptake results, not simply implementation of employee benefit programmes!

Does consolidation of the benefits market signal a market in crisis?

July 15, 2010 By Darren Tracey Leave a Comment

Crisis? Possibly for individual companies but certainly not for the industry. The primary driver is customer demand, which is shaking up the market and driving innovation, either through acquisition and consolidation or through product development.

Employers are attempting to deliver greater engagement when budgets are under even more scrutiny than ever. This means they are becoming more demanding of their suppliers requiring cost efficiencies, greater participation and added value. Disparate services provided by different companies increases management time (both internally and in management fees) and decreases effectiveness as different schemes / methodologies need to be communicated. The market is finding that to prosper they need to offer  a suite of services under one roof. Of course integrated solutions provide benefits  above and beyond simply cost savings. [Read more...]

Choosing a flexible benefits scheme that works for you

July 24, 2009 By Darren Tracey Leave a Comment

Research shows that the more motivated and engaged staff a company has, the better the levels of work performance. This translates into a more profitable organisation and it therefore makes sound business sense to invest in staff just as you would your customers.

There are a range of factors that influence staff motivation including the basics such as working conditions, pay and benefits. However communication, recognition and rewards can play a huge part in making staff feel valued and appreciated. [Read more...]

Reward & Benefit in a Recession

December 16, 2008 By Darren Tracey Leave a Comment

As the media continues to predict doom and gloom for many months to come how can you ensure that your employees are kept motivated and continue to reduce staff turnover? I thought I would pose a view questions to Richard Davies, Head of Employee Benefits here at P&MM for his take on the current climate…

What sort of impact is the broader economic situation and outlook having on rewards and benefits in general?

“As the recession starts to bite, more than ever staff need genuine money-saving benefits that can supplement their income and make the household budget stretch further. The rising costs of fuel, for example, mean that offering travel subsidies will make a huge difference. Also, assistance in covering regular, essential costs such as childcare, healthcare and insurance will make a substantial difference. But just because money has to be tighter does not mean that employees want to sacrifice the more enjoyable pursuits in life, so benefits packages should offer savings on things such as holiday bookings, gym membership, days out and high street discounts to make luxuries more affordable too.” [Read more...]
